My Nose Job Blog the joys of the Open Septo-Rhinoplasty

Day 21 – rhinoplasty recovery

It's almost 3 weeks since I had my surgery and things are healing very nicely. The swelling continues to go down and the shape of my nose is improving gradually. The biggest difference I can already see, or rather smell, is a completely new ability to breathe through my nose. I mentioned it before but this has got even better over the last week.

I am unfortunately still having to wear a plaster on the bridge of my nose as the swelling is still significant enough to make wearing my glasses very uncomfortable. Adding insult to injury I am unable to have contact lenses fitted as I now have discovered I have a significant stigmatism in my right eye. If that weren't the case I would be writing this with contacts fitted so I was a little disappointed when I saw the optician last Friday.

The last week has seen me getting back into work and running around with the kids - I say again how amazing I find it that I'm still somewhat sapped of energy. We're back into the run of things now and although I am very wary of anyone getting near my nose I feel pretty much back to normal. Note that as week 3.

I will be back in the gym and my classes this week so that will help me feel like I've got everything back on track.

In regards to what is left to resolve, my nose is still swollen, it is still crooked from the wounds I can see and feel inside my nose and is still very tender. I'll keep posting weekly so you can see the improvement on the swelling. The crookedness will continue to improve but I don't think it will be 100% straight from underneath, even though it will be from front on.

I'm still absolutely delighted and thrilled that I've had the operation and cannot believe what I'm smelling these days!

  1. Hi there! I am considering rhinoplasty really hard, but have a tight budget..
I am sure you have an idea roughly how much it costs in total…and where did you get your nose job done? thanks very much!

  2. Hi, I had mine done in the UK courtesy of our National Health Service so I didn’t pay for it I’m afraid. I do know that my surgeon does private work but no idea how much it would cost. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

  3. I loved your article – it was some great information. I think you and your readers might be interested in another article I found on Medical and Dry Eyes.

  4. Do you need a lighter pair of glasses? I know a guy! :)

  5. Hey, thanks for making your blog. I’ve been following it as I’m waiting for insurance approval for the same procedure. I hope your healing is going well and that you’ll update us again soon. Thanks!

  6. hey, I’m looking forward to see newest pictures! happy healing

  7. anything new on the progress ?
could it be that the worse isnt the operation but the months coming after ?
cause it was the case for me

  8. Thanks so much for this blog! I had my septorhino done 11 days ago and my crooked and swollen nose rivals yours. I was worried i was the only one to experience this. It’s comforting to see your swelling is improving over time, please keep posting your results.

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hello,
I had my nose done now 7 weeks ago. So far I’m not happy. It’s still slants to the right. One side of on nostril is bigger than the other. And the over all size is notably larger. Since I still have bruises around my eyes (yep, 7 weeks later) I’m hoping to god that the issues I have listed above will change. My nose doesn’t look any worse but it doesn’t look better. I’m really depressed about it.
    Question:
On your 13th day, you have a bump or a knot on the lift side of of your nostril. Has that gone away? I have something that looks similar.
Also, has the bump on the top of your nose gone away? From the right my nose looks okay, but when I look at myself from the left I CLEARLY still have the bump that was on top (like your old nose)

You stopped posting and I don’t see anymore photos of you.

  10. Hey, thanks for your message -may I ask what you’ve had done? Was it an open septorhinoplasty?

I saw my surgeon a few weeks ago, which was 7 weeks after my operation and my nose still looked crooked and I was very unhappy. He said that because it was such an intensive surgery, and took a while, the healing would take 6 months to a year and I’m not seeing him again til October.

From what he said I understand that it goes back to ‘normal’ very slowly. Give it time.

My nose certainly isn’t right yet, it is still crooked but if I run my finger over the scar where they cut me, there is evidently a LOAD of swelling still to go down. Like I say give it time. I see improvements every week.

I will be posting again very shortly – I just didn’t think everyone wanted me wittering on with a weekly update when not a lot is changing.

    Hang in there!

  11. I had an open surgery. I couldn’t breath out my left nostril. It’s almost 2 months and I still have bruise around my eyes. The tip looks way bigger then it was.
My doctor told me to keep massaging it to the left so it won’t lean to the right again.
On the left side of my nose I have a BUMP.
I really don’t want to go through this again. But I will if it doesn’t look better in a year.
